The Leaston

Garden ......

……..is a 17th century walled garden nestled in a magical space 650 feet up in the foothills of the Lammermuirs in East Lothian, Scotland. The house dates back to 1610 but there has been a settlement here since the 13th century.

The walled garden itself is on the historic maps of the area. We grow our flowers in the garden and we also have a small polytunnel to help us extend the season.

About me:

Hello - I am Hilary; I have lived and worked in this magical place that is the Leaston Garden for over 40 years.  I am a flower-farmer (amongst many other things) and I try to work in harmony with the garden and all its energies in a spirit of co-creation.

I believe that many humans have lost much of their ability to understand and communicate with the natural world and that rediscovering this innate ability is an easy way to find peace and tranquility in our fast moving world.

Someone once told me that the definition of a weed is a flower in the wrong place. Some of the flowers that grow here are in the right place, some in the wrong place and some just arrive of their own accord. It is awe-inspiring to let nature do the work – the results are astonishing – and it is wonderful to see what happens……
